Ergonoxis Night

Ergonoxis - A 12 hour programming contest conducted from 6pm to 6am on Feburary 27th(Saturday).

Arguably one of the most memorable nights of my college life. All the excitement started at around 5 pm when I made two of my more interesting mistakes I have made over the phone. All while watching the B Arch people dance. Ah the girl in the front with the open hair and the blue jeans was stunning. Thanks to her, I got to the contest at 7pm.

Now me and Sowmy along with Surya and Viswa were the ones from our class. We found ourselves couple of PCs in a corner and settled in. Half an hour later the whole room was filled with people looking all serious and occupied. No one among us four took the contest too seriously.

We spent most of the night roaming around the college in the dark talking and occasionally polambifying :D The dinner at the roadside shop turned out to be pretty decent. The night went on with Viswa's singing and philosophic sayings, Surya's weird looking dance steps and Sowmy's silent observations.

Things began to get more and more weird as the night grew. I got stuck with a C problem and began to have long conversations with the monitor. Surya recorded this in his cell "It's 4 am and I am awake. I have never been awake this late. But am not sure if I am awake now" :D Viswa was fully asleep by then. Sowmy was semi-asleep and would occasionally wake up to tell me that I am thinking too complicated for a sappa problem.

While me and Sowmy solved a few problems, Surya managed to solve a particularly nasty problem which no one else finished. So at the end of the day (or rather the beginning in this case) we were all pretty happy.

Thanks to Ergonoxis I learnt a few things.

- Never say important things over the phone.

- The definition "Programmer /n./ A red-eyed, mumbling mammal capable of conversing with inanimate objects" is actually true.

- Going a night without any sleep is not that hard. You just need a few friends to keep company.

A Sad Ending

A glorious start.

Shakira's shaking hips.
Vuvuzela's vociferous noise.
England's bad luck.
France and Italy's meet at the airport.
Messi's disappointment.
Germany's counter attack.
Forlan's blinders.
Spain's dominance with the ball.
Sneijder's blinding passes.
Robben's weird-looking runs.
Casillas's luck.
Netherlands's one loss.

A sad ending to the FIFA World Cup 2010.

The Clueless Walk

My life is one long walk down a road,
Down a road whose destination is not known;
Not knowing where I go has been the fun,
The fun is what that keeps me going.

I often have found people to walk with me,
To walk with me on an otherwise lonely road;
Lonely road it has been when there was none,
There was none to speak or listen to.

My path has often been chosen by other people,
Other people who have their own path to follow;
To follow them gives me more time with them,
With them have I had many a cherished memories.

I have no clue where am supposed to go,
To go left or right is not my concern,
Not my concern for this I know well,
I know well that only the journey matters.

In School

.) History was a boring subject. It had nothing more to do with academics or social life.

.) A committed guy was a hard working guy.

.) Ex stood for example or exercise. It had nothing to do with the first point.

.) Attending the first period was compulsory. So was carrying a bag.

.) Subjects did not have strange names like Organisational Behavior or Total Quality Management.

.) You ate lunch everyday.

.) Sitting boy, girl, boy, girl was a punishment.

.) Boys hung out with boys and girls hung out with girls. For the most part at least :)

Happy Birthday!

May 29, Birthday of Mr.Sowmy Narayan aka the IronMan :D

His appearance can often be very deceptive,
Yet this lanky man is clever, witty and amusive;
The word that best describes him is uncanny,
For very few can be this geeky and this funny.

It took eighteen years for our paths to cross,
Yet it turned out to be worth the wait;
Now on this special day, I have only one to say,
To one of my closest friends,a happy birthday!

Happy Birthday man!

Who Am I?

I have always wondered who am I.
I am Mario trying to save my Princess.
I am Wayne Rooney trying to shoot past the keeper in Be-A-Pro.
I am the manager of Valencia taking them to an undefeated season in FIFA.
I am Tony Hawks trying to do an ollie and get it into a manual.
I am Hitman trying to get rid of the targets assigned to me.
I am the Emperor of Russia trying to build a mighty army.
I am a programmer.
I am an engineer studying 5 straight hours from e-books.
In short,
I am someone who loves the virtual world.

Think about it. The virtual world almost - almost - gives you everything you want.
I get out of head aches by playing FIFA.
I learn history by playing Age Of Empires.
I learn not to make silly mistakes by playing Warrior Within.
I learnt to accept defeat when there was no other way.
And ya, it helps me get out this college life which sometimes can just get darn boring. The list can go on.

Do not mistake me. I like the real world too. But this just about nearly sums up everything I think.

Call me unrealistic. Call me simplistic. Call me whatever you want. But I believe given a few touches, the virtual world can almost - again only almost - replace my real world.

Give me a PS3, friends to join in FIFA and I can stay awake late nights (late nights as in 3am to 5am) having a lot of fun :)
