Bye Bye 2010

The end of 2010 is almost here. Finally!

So let us start the new year on a happy note :D

Happy New Year ppl :)

P.S : The man in the picture is Wilbur Sargunaraj, the music sensation. I have decided to start the new year by watching his songs on youtube :D

"Chicken? Ewww" - SOS 2.1

Semester 2
Chapter 2 : Chicken? Ewww

First a kutty flashback. We go to 2006 when am doing my 12th.
(Just roaming around my house)
Me : What's for dinner?
Mom : Today Sunday na. So chicken.
Me : Chicken a? Chi. Am skipping lunch today then.
Mom : You can eat Maggi. Like you do every Sunday.
Me : But I can't even stand the smell. Its disgusting.
Mom : Adjust one day.

Okay next we go back to 2008 when am in my 2nd semester.
Me and my friend Vishnu go out to eat.
(looking at the menu)
Vishnu : What you want?
Me : I donno. Anything is ok man.
Vishnu : Seri. We ll take the chicken fried rice and the chicken biriyani.
Me : Add chicken manjurian too.
Vishnu : Vokay.

Well this conversion from being a pure vegetarian to a eating-chicken-everytime-I-go-out is solely thanks to hanging out with a group of friends who I guess have never eaten veg anytime they went out.
Also to Bismi and the local mall where we go to eat at least once a week.

How I Met My Friends - SOS 2 to 8

Semester 2-8

Everyone in college has their own "gang" (unless you are like Surya who keeps jumping from one group to another never truly fitting in anywhere or like Viswa who is simply present in all gangs). If am gonna write about my college life, I should be writing about the people with whom I have spent a lot of time with. So here goes.

A Man United fan, a gifted poet, one of the few to watch English TV serials and vague movies like the Machinist (which is a true master piece), loads of online FIFA via Hamachi meant we had plenty to talk during the long lecture hours.
Impulsively sarcastic and a true somberi, the dude shows an uncanny ability in keeping his spirits high. This post probably describes him best. Apart from being one of my closest friends, he has done a spectacular job as my shrink :D
Oh ya, the dude has a real life story that would put most tamil movies to shame.

A cousin of sorts, Sarvesh is a stand up guy and best described by the word 'decent'. Despite coming from a seriously loaded family (He once said, in full earnest, "Pocket money la bike vaangirla. Aana my family won't let me drive it"), he wants to start a company fully on his own. Baffling, you know. Co-founder of TOSSHe has given me plenty of advice on a specific area of interest which I have mostly never followed.
And ya, a famous tamil movie is more or less based on his real life story :P

Sowmy Narayan aka Ironman :D

The geek of the group, Sowmy (ya some boys also have that name :P ) is a rare specimen indeed. This lanky dude is clever, witty and amusive. A true connoisseur of sarcasm, his ability to grasp even the most subtle meanings of a conversation is unbelievable. The dude reads novels, watches movies/tv serials, bunks classes yet still somehow ends up with a CGPA above 9. Also the co-founder of TOSS.
One of the best writers I know in real life (to know what I mean, read this), he wants to be a writer, lawyer and/or an entrepreneur :D

Viswanath aka Viswa (not Vichu)

Initially hung out with him mostly because he hung out with Vishnu. Talks a lot and comes with tons and tons of mokkais, a small percentage of which are actually funny. Best used to break the ice in awkward situations, he is comparable to a head ache. Despite your best efforts, you are never sure why you got it and how to get rid of it.

Surya

His inclusion in this list would surprise a lot of people and for good reason. He has somehow stuck to my gang for so long, getting rid of him has become too much effort for a somberi. Guaranteed to do something silly-looking at least once every five minutes, he has got a recent passion for cartoons and the spartans (this is an inside joke.. for now) which thankfully no one else seems to share.

Nalini aka Nemo

Childish and studious to almost a fault, she is a happy-go-lucky kinda girl. Its almost funny how every time I talk to her I seem to upset someone or the other. She is quite a good dancer and has been the inspiration for quite a few posts in this blog. And thanks to her, I have had many interesting phone calls(again, this is another inside joke). Also she is probably one of the few women who knows a lot about me and someone I know a lot about.

Well I could write about a few more people but feeling too lazy to complete.

A Boring Post - SOS 1.2

Semester 1
Chapter 3 : Nothing More

This is a boring post. There is nothing terribly interesting here. Nothing funny. Nothing drastically sad. Nothing worth reading twice, in case you go on to read it once.

Exactly like my first semester in TCE. It was one of those days when things don't happen much.

Then why bother post this at all? Because this was part of my college life. Because am too lazy to remember the tiny details in a semester whose most memorable moment was when a staff got pissed off at me. Because a boring semester turned out to be better than some "worstu" parts of my future college life.

Anyway there I was, at the end of first semester . Still as a geeky nerd and a vegetarian :)

Blankness Is Bliss - SOS 6.x

Sothapals Of A Somberi

Semester 6
Chapter (Not Yet Decided)

Too many thoughts crowd in my head,
It is so bad I cannot even go to bed.
All these memories are making me mad,
For my life has become so so sad.

Then comes the blankness to come save me,
And out of this crappy life it sets me free;
Something I have tried has gone wildly amiss,
It is true, this blankness is bliss.

What was it that I tried? Why the blankness?
To know all this, keep reading, the Sothapals Of A Somberi :D

At The Wrong Place - SOS 1.1

Semester 1
Chapter 2 : First Day Of College

Well it is the first day of my college and I had to go by bus. Now everyone knows am not very good at going from one place to another on my own. So I got into the most direct bus from my house to college. That would be the 31 numbered bus. Now, remember this is the first day of my college and I had no idea where to get down. All I knew was it takes approximately thrity minutes to get there. And sure, after 25 min, I did reach the place. I asked the conductor if that stop is the college. Just to be sure. After getting an affirmative, I got down. And as soon as the bus left, I knew something was wrong.

What I had not known was that the stop right before my college stop is called "Mannar College". Why? Because there is a freaking college there. Right before my college stop is another college. I had gotten down at the wrong stop. Shyte.

It was a good thing I had started early that day. So I decided to walk my way from there to my college. What I didn't know was that it was a 20 min walk. I got there in 30 minutes.

I reached the class in time. The first period was Chemistry. He started teaching immediately. Thus five minutes into the first hour of my college class hours I was fast asleep.

Orientation - SOS 1.0

Semester 1
Chapter 1 : Orientation

Orientation is the start of college life. They take you around the college showing you around. Generally dull stuff. But my first sothapal starts there :)

I wore what could be the worst choice for a shirt. A black shirt with orangish collar and sleeve. Yes, orange. Reasonably bright orange at that. That seemed to upset a few staff. I get shouted at on my first day of college. For wearing a bright shirt.

Unfortunately I wore that day only once again I think. And that day was when they took photograph for my college ID card. So no surprise I look like a moron in my college ID card. Which I have to use for four years.

But it was not all bad that day. The first conversation I had with a college mate was with someone who would be my classmate for all four years. He was disgusted with hostel food. Being at my grandparent's place I felt reasonably better. That person is the one whom we all now affectionately call Biscuit :D

An Autobiography

Well I wanted to write a decent post for Diwali. No ideas so far. So thought I d ready my Autobiography.

So, people, I give you..

Outview.

Sai Santhosh joins the college on August 2007. Read how he goes through his four years in college. How he comes out of his geekiness. How he is shown the fun side of life by his friends. How he missed the accused list. How his laziness takes control. How he sothapifies a perfectly good relationship. How he makes enemies in unlikely departments. How his friends handle his moodiness. How his classmates never understood what he said. How he got through placements.

An account of all his sothapals in four years at TCE.

Reviews(Probable)

"Absolutely LOL" says Vishnu Gowthem.

"A good read. Difficult to keep track at places" says Sarvesh Ghautham.

"A decent read" says Sowmy Narayan.

"Well acutally this is first book I read. I think it was ok but blah blah (125 words later) good" says Viswa.

"Nice da." says Surya.

Ms.Nalini was unavailabe/unreachable for comments.

Read the unedited Prologue here :)

She Has Left Me. Again.

Why God, why?!! Of all the things I have, why take her away?!

Have you ever wanted something a lot in your life?
For I wanted her dearly in my life.

Have you ever had the joy of actually having it?
For I did have her.

Have you gone through the pain of losing it?
For I did lose her.

But I had her again the second time. I was happy. I really was. But now it is undone. I am now a man of constant sorrow. I have forgotten what is happiness, what it meant to spend long hours over something, what it is to have someone when you are feeling down.

She knew how much I loved her. She knew I needed her. But she has left me. Again.
Still, I can't blame her. She did try her best. But there are somethings that life doesn't just accept. Yet to think that she left me because of one flaw, I don't know what to say.

Let all who read this be my witness. I swear I will win you back. I will one day get what you really want. I will have you in my life again.

Who was the she? What was that one flaw? Well she is the fifa series. The one flaw is that my PC doesn't have a decent graphic card.

Bottom Line : FIFA 11 won't run in my PC.

What I Desire

There is so much I desire in this world,
And you know the list goes well beyond gold;
I want a thousand things from life and more,
Even if I don't get one darn thing I'll go sore.

I want to live my lazy life for long,
And on a stage sing my favourite song;
I want a lot of things to stay the same,
And to write a full poem that ain't lame.

I so yearn to own those big big eyes,
For which am ready to pay any price;
I want to salsa with a girl the right way,
And to have my friends with me all day.

I want to be a dark villain in a cinema,
In a role that will forever remain an enigma;
Let no one tell me something is very wrong,
Whenever I sing my favourite song.

This is just a few of what I desire,
The list will only keep growing higher;
If you can give me any one of the above,
You will forever have my love :D

Delloite

P.S : This is my 50th post, so cheers to all my readers :)

P.P.S : 49 posts as an unemployed engineer. But now things are a little different :D

Well after a lot of postponing of companies coming to our college, Deloitte turned out to be the first one to come for campus placements. I had never heard of that company before but with my no-idea-what-is-going-on, i went to attend the recruitment process. Now my preparation for Deloitte was,
*) Buy two formal shirts the day before company was to come.
*) Read aptitude questions for about 30 SECONDS.
*) Buy a file to put in my stuff.

Now considering I had a few classmates study R.S.Agarwal book during class hours and few other classmates bunk classes to study - yes! people actually bunk a whole day to study! - I was feeling my chances of getting into the company was lol-able.

First round was Aptitude questions. Nothing too complex. Still I was a little surprised I got through that. Next was a case study. With me talking a lot in my group and my reputation of nobody understanding what I say, I was the only one taken from my group. So again surprisingly got through case study also.

Next was personal interview and phone interview. Personal interview was an one-on-one across the table thing. Phone interview was again on-the-spot kinda thing. Talked my way through both of them. An after a tiring 4 hour wait for others to finish, results finally came out. Sai Santhosh had to made it to the 23 selected people.

As I was texting "Got placed in Delloite" to my friends, I realized I didn't know the spelling of that company for sure :D

So there it is people. With absolutely no serious preparation what so ever, I got placed in the first big interview I attended. And if you are wondering what a supposedly technical guy like me is doing joining Deloitte, you are thinking along the same lines as me.

Wow.. Just Wow..

We all have our way of reacting when we are sad. Some shut down and sleep. Some put their head-phones on and listen to slow songs. Some have long chats in GTalk. But there is one way that is a thousand ways better than the fore mentioned ones.

*) Switch on PC.
*) Open your browser. Go to youtube
*) Enter "Sam Anderson". Or even better try "Wilbur Sargunaraj"
*) View videos
*) If you are still sad, then even God cannot help you.

Let me tell about who these people are.

Sam Anderson. Hero of the movie "Yaaruku Yaaro".
His acting is so lol-able that you will roll on the floor laughing. Literally. Seriously, first time I saw him I was laughing so hard on the floor that I couldn't speak for another twenty minutes. This man, apart from helping you get over your sadness, will make you think "Ivane nadikum bothu(If he himself can act), we can do anything we desire". So putting it simply, he is one hell of an inspirational guy though in a purely unintentional way.

Wilbur Sargunaraj. Dance King, Drummer, Musical Sensation.
Check out his site. This guy sings so happily and with such enthusiasm that he is the ultimate role model for any fun-loving person. His song titles like "Appa, Amma I Want The Love Marriage", "Please Check My Blog" and "The Chicken 65 Song" say enough about him. This guy sings so jolly, its a whole new genre. Do check his songs on youtube. Or if you are lucky enough to be in the city where he is performing(Yes! He performs globally), DO NOT MISS IT.

Men like these are a rare species. A really really rare species. They are the true entertainers.
Legends.

Just goes to say what I said in one of my previous post. God is Great :)

The Typical Sourashtra Wedding

It is official. My cousin Abinaya is no longer a bachelorette.

Here goea a short account on the funnier side of Abi's wedding :)

The difficult thing in these wedding is I have so many cousins in abroad with children that it is kind of hard to keep track of who is whose kid. I mean I d get killed if I go up to my bro Arvind who has one daughter and ask him how his eldest son is doing :D I am thinking of suggesting that all below five years wear jersey like in a football game.

The other big problem for someone who is studying in Madurai is to have your cousins constantly whine about how poor Madurai is. I keep hearing "Hey Banglore is not at all hot ya.", "Banglore is not such a boring place man". And there is this "Australian" brother who keeps talking in a weird voice saying "Hey thats not how we do it in Australia". I later learnt that the weird voice he was trying was the Australian accent.

And following current trend, everyone above 20 years will get the "talk" from almost all grown ups. They tell you "Don't commit yourself to any girl. - pause - If you do, make sure she knows Sourashtra". Sadly you are not gonna draw any friendly glances if you ask if its enough she speaks "ruvo ruvo" (little little) Sourashtra or that she actually has to be a Sourashtrian.

A word about the jomans (food servings) is a must here. The food is so heavily loaded that it can nullify a year's worth of diet in a single sitting. I keep praying to God that someone will bring a change in the menu but looks like it won't happen in the foreseeable future.

Abi's wedding would have been near perfect but for the average age of the people who attended it. I mean, sure the blessings of the elders are needed during these functions. But a few more younger people would have definitely kept things more interesting ;)

God Is Great ;)

So there I was sitting in the open auditorium looking at the cultural show. Just as I was beginning to get bored, it happened.

Someone crossed me and sat two rows in front of me. My God, was she beautiful. The easy smile, the flowing hair, the breath-taking beauty. I had never seen a more beautiful woman. It was like I was in a dream. I sat there, totally blanked out. She was easily the most beautiful woman I have seen in my.. Wait.

A group dance from the B Arch girls just started. And there she was. Right in the middle of the group. One look at her could just fill any man with a thousand smiles. The slight touch of laziness in her dance was magical. I had never seen a more beautiful woman. I knew I could look at such beauty all day along and still.. Wait.

Thoughts about the girl of my dreams popped into my mind. To say she was stunning would be such an understatement. I mean, she was easily the most beautiful woman I had seen in real life. I had always wondered how an angel would look like. After seeing her, I knew. It had to be.. Wait.

And the list keeps growing. There is only one possible explanation for all this beauty in this world.

God is great.

Ergonoxis Night

Ergonoxis - A 12 hour programming contest conducted from 6pm to 6am on Feburary 27th(Saturday).

Arguably one of the most memorable nights of my college life. All the excitement started at around 5 pm when I made two of my more interesting mistakes I have made over the phone. All while watching the B Arch people dance. Ah the girl in the front with the open hair and the blue jeans was stunning. Thanks to her, I got to the contest at 7pm.

Now me and Sowmy along with Surya and Viswa were the ones from our class. We found ourselves couple of PCs in a corner and settled in. Half an hour later the whole room was filled with people looking all serious and occupied. No one among us four took the contest too seriously.

We spent most of the night roaming around the college in the dark talking and occasionally polambifying :D The dinner at the roadside shop turned out to be pretty decent. The night went on with Viswa's singing and philosophic sayings, Surya's weird looking dance steps and Sowmy's silent observations.

Things began to get more and more weird as the night grew. I got stuck with a C problem and began to have long conversations with the monitor. Surya recorded this in his cell "It's 4 am and I am awake. I have never been awake this late. But am not sure if I am awake now" :D Viswa was fully asleep by then. Sowmy was semi-asleep and would occasionally wake up to tell me that I am thinking too complicated for a sappa problem.

While me and Sowmy solved a few problems, Surya managed to solve a particularly nasty problem which no one else finished. So at the end of the day (or rather the beginning in this case) we were all pretty happy.

Thanks to Ergonoxis I learnt a few things.

- Never say important things over the phone.

- The definition "Programmer /n./ A red-eyed, mumbling mammal capable of conversing with inanimate objects" is actually true.

- Going a night without any sleep is not that hard. You just need a few friends to keep company.

The New Batman Trailer

It's out on the net! The new batman trailer! Check this out. Looks great!

A Sad Ending

A glorious start.

Shakira's shaking hips.
Vuvuzela's vociferous noise.
England's bad luck.
France and Italy's meet at the airport.
Messi's disappointment.
Germany's counter attack.
Forlan's blinders.
Spain's dominance with the ball.
Sneijder's blinding passes.
Robben's weird-looking runs.
Casillas's luck.
Netherlands's one loss.

A sad ending to the FIFA World Cup 2010.

The Clueless Walk

My life is one long walk down a road,
Down a road whose destination is not known;
Not knowing where I go has been the fun,
The fun is what that keeps me going.

I often have found people to walk with me,
To walk with me on an otherwise lonely road;
Lonely road it has been when there was none,
There was none to speak or listen to.

My path has often been chosen by other people,
Other people who have their own path to follow;
To follow them gives me more time with them,
With them have I had many a cherished memories.

I have no clue where am supposed to go,
To go left or right is not my concern,
Not my concern for this I know well,
I know well that only the journey matters.

In School

.) History was a boring subject. It had nothing more to do with academics or social life.

.) A committed guy was a hard working guy.

.) Ex stood for example or exercise. It had nothing to do with the first point.

.) Attending the first period was compulsory. So was carrying a bag.

.) Subjects did not have strange names like Organisational Behavior or Total Quality Management.

.) You ate lunch everyday.

.) Sitting boy, girl, boy, girl was a punishment.

.) Boys hung out with boys and girls hung out with girls. For the most part at least :)

Happy Birthday!

May 29, Birthday of Mr.Sowmy Narayan aka the IronMan :D

His appearance can often be very deceptive,
Yet this lanky man is clever, witty and amusive;
The word that best describes him is uncanny,
For very few can be this geeky and this funny.

It took eighteen years for our paths to cross,
Yet it turned out to be worth the wait;
Now on this special day, I have only one to say,
To one of my closest friends,a happy birthday!

Happy Birthday man!

Who Am I?

I have always wondered who am I.
I am Mario trying to save my Princess.
I am Wayne Rooney trying to shoot past the keeper in Be-A-Pro.
I am the manager of Valencia taking them to an undefeated season in FIFA.
I am Tony Hawks trying to do an ollie and get it into a manual.
I am Hitman trying to get rid of the targets assigned to me.
I am the Emperor of Russia trying to build a mighty army.
I am a programmer.
I am an engineer studying 5 straight hours from e-books.
In short,
I am someone who loves the virtual world.

Think about it. The virtual world almost - almost - gives you everything you want.
I get out of head aches by playing FIFA.
I learn history by playing Age Of Empires.
I learn not to make silly mistakes by playing Warrior Within.
I learnt to accept defeat when there was no other way.
And ya, it helps me get out this college life which sometimes can just get darn boring. The list can go on.

Do not mistake me. I like the real world too. But this just about nearly sums up everything I think.

Call me unrealistic. Call me simplistic. Call me whatever you want. But I believe given a few touches, the virtual world can almost - again only almost - replace my real world.

Give me a PS3, friends to join in FIFA and I can stay awake late nights (late nights as in 3am to 5am) having a lot of fun :)

Capital Problem

Well there I am in my Visual Programming lab doing my semester practicals. I write a simple program. One function call another function

myframe()
{
create(0,"hello");
}

And i get the error:
"create" variable not initialized.

I have no idea what this means. Basic programming skills tells you "create" is a function and not a variable here.

I spend an hour - a full 60 minutes - to find out what's wrong. Then I find the mistake.
Apparently in VC++, create() and CREATE() are the same. But Create() is not. An hour wasted because of a single letter. Darn.

Exam Superstitions

Everyone has their own superstitions during exam time. Three years in college and I think the superstitions of me and my friends have only become weirder. Here is what we do to ensure we write the exams well.

.) When I start studying, the time has to be a round-ed off number like 7,8,9 etc. Postpone the start till such a number it reached.

.) Same applies for the time I start to write exams. Sadly my sem exams start at 1:45. So I lose 15 min every exam.

.) A friend of my cousin needs to see the stray dog around their department before going to the hall.

.) A friend wears the same jean the next time if he did the previous exam well. Even if it is unwashed.

.) Sowmy needs to take his scientific calculator to all his exams. Even if it is only English.

.) Me and Sowmy have to drink water just before entering the hall.

.) Me and my friends have to go to the examination hall in the same path every day.

.) Added recently, me and Sowmy need to see a certain someone to do the exams well.

.) Added more recently, I shouldn't see a certain someone else to do the exams well.

.) My bag has to be kept near Sowmy's bag. Even if we are in different halls.

.) Finally, I always need to have more than one blue pen. Even if one doesn't write.

Mathematics

I finish my Maths exam early and look at all the calculations I have done so far in my Scientific Calculator (using the up arrow thing). Here are some.

7 * 3 = 21
16 - 4 = 12
12 * 2 = 24
23 - 7 = 16
2000 + 1000 = 3000
2000 / 2 = 1000
...
..
.

Moral : It's high time I started learning simple addition and subtraction. Again.

A Lazy Man's Lament

There once was this man living all quiet,
Yet no one knew his mind was like a riot,
Most people thought he was one lazy dude,
For his busy mind never did they intrude.

He never seemed to get anything done in time,
And his ambitions never seemed too high a climb;
No one noticed he did get all his work done,
For doing things at the last minute was fun.

His slow walk did they ever laugh at mockingly,
But all these things he never did take seriously;
In fact he never was serious when he should be,
For it let his alter ego be open for all to see.

His lack of interest in arguing, people do misread,
Didn't they know lazy ppl never like to argue or bleed;
He will keep safe what is given to him or he ll try,
And if it does get lost, he ll only say f it and move on.

He never understands why his lazyness upsets others,
Nor does he know why they look down at his lazyness;
Don't they know that being lazy is a real talent,
And the other word for being lazy is being efficient?

Random

Just a few random thoughts here..

If you are impulsive few times and lazy the other times, it leads to disastrous effects.

If something goes too well, it means you are going to face a whole new level of comedy soon.

Being an introvert denies you a few joy. And a lot of trouble.

Give something a lot of thought and you will f it up.

If you are good at something, there is always someone better at it.

Life is not a sin curve to have an up, a normal and a low. It is a tan curve with an all-time-high followed by an all-time-low to gradually high again.

Mates before muffs. Our mates know it, the other doesn't.

They say we must be like the phoenix which rises again from its ashes. They don't tell you that the phoenix is born again as a baby and has to struggle for a while before reaching its prime again.

What is life is but a dream :)

A confused mind is a disease. It soon makes the others confused too.

You can write a blog out of anything in your life :P

Everything ends. Except nothing.

Linux, The Anti Virus? :P

Well I switched on my PC after a four day break in which I had gone to Chennai. And I am welcomed by this pop up box. A virus. Great!

I was actually a little happy that something like this happened because it proved that avast! was doing something to protect my pc( I had long doubted if it did anything at all). Mr.avast! showed the same trojan was present in all my drives. I clicked delete and for a full five seconds everything seemed fine. Then the pop up came. Again. Same trojan, same place. The trojan refused to get deleted. Well guess avast! is not exactly the best anti-virus around.

I thought I would delete it personally but the file wasn't visible. Of course. It wasn't a hidden file too. Well after trying to solve this using Autorun Eater, Spyware Terminator both of which are in my PC and being too lazy to find a better anti-virus, I began to wonder if it was time to format my PC. Then I remembered something. Linux.

I have a distro of Linux (TOSS) in my PC. Now TOSS and Windows are two different OS and have their own way of handling files. So I went into TOSS and into my C Drive. And there it was, the trojan sitting pretty. It had even created a text file of size 1.5 GB! After a few seconds hesitation, I shift+deleted the trojan from all the drives and any other suspicious files. Restart. Windows started without much fuss. No trouble from trojans. avast! went back to do it's job(which am still not sure about).

Though the method to get rid of the trojan seemed crude, it did work and my PC has been running well so far. Linux ftw i guess :)
